This is a fantastic place to hike in an area that’s about as natural as it gets in modern Florida. Lovely mostly shaded trail through mature scrub along a bluff overlooking Reedy creek. Suitable for off road biking as well. Lovely primitive camp sites are available along the miles of trails. Trails go through scrub, native slash pines and oak hammocks. Nice small county park/campground nearby on the north end of Lake Arbuckle at the east end of Arbuckle Road. I’ve canoed to the creek from the campground and walked upstream when it was too shallow to canoe in and it’s beautiful walking in there in a couple inches of cool water. The parking area is on School Bas road where Rucks Dairy Road splits off to the right. There is also a basic camping area very near here on Rucks Dairy Rd with a covered picnic pavilion and two port-o-lets. Check out Lake Godwin to the southeast off School Bus Road. I’ve been hiking in these trails every day of the week mostly in the cooler months and I’ve never seen more than a couple of people there. It’s free, no lines, bring water, study the map or take a photo of it with your phone before going out in the woods for safety.

Love being out here in nature...walk for miles and hardly ever see another person. Been camping out here a few times over the years. Really like the primitive campsites and the creekside trail is a nice little hike. We swim in the creek if the water levels are up

There are two listings for the Arbuckle Tract at the Lake Wales Ridge State Forest. The other one is where the kiosk is and is just south on Ruck's Dairy Road.

The Entrance off of Highway 64 (the end of School Bus Road) is usually locked, except for times surrounding hunting season. This may be where Google Maps sends you when you search for directions. The North Entrance off Arbuckle Road is always open.

The entrance at Tram Road (off Highway 64) is usually locked. You can get a gate code by contacting the State Forest if you camp at Isabell or Grave Island Campsites.

Home to some Florida Panthers. If you go often enough your chances of seeing this rare and elusive cat increase exponentially. Twice I’ve seen them. Once about 2/3 of the way down School Bus Rd from the north the other while hiking on the trail by Lake Arbuckle. The entire area doesn’t have many visitors during the week and very few ever on trails. If you need assistance you’ll be very alone during certain times or in the backcountry so be safe and plan accordingly.
